Pleasure Without Conscience

One of the greatest souls to have graced this earth and is considered the father of his country through his doctrine of non-violent protest that saw his country achieve political and social progress Mohandas ‘Mahatma’ Gandhi, gave us the 7 deadly sins that humanity can commit. One of them was to have pleasure without conscience. The subject of pleasure and consciousness is very critical in our age since it is the very thing that can mostly break us if not handled appropriately.

If you closely study how people’s priorities in life are; how they would want to succeed in their endeavors and how those priorities change once they have the money or the resources they would want to build their future on, you will be surprised how few of them manage to uphold those priorities they had before they got the monetary power. Majority won’t take time to plan how best to use it and end up prioritizing on mediocre goals that add no value to their current situation. Most of us begin to think of leisure and pleasure as basic life necessities and unconsciously end up dedicating most of our time on such. We forget so soon of our hard struggles; the endless jobs and the cruel environment under which we had to work under in order to earn a penny or two. We begin to think of more luxurious stuff and pleasantries to buy. We begin to think of places we never visited before and would want to. By accepting this untimely demands we end up spending so much on the things that were unnecessary at the time.

Don’t get me wrong,am not saying that you should not take time off to enjoy yourself with your family and friends. Am not saying you should not buy what you please. No, am not saying that. What am stressing on is to review your priorities before you go spending. Sometime it is good to save a coin that can bring in more than spend it and have none. One sure way to remain poor is to spend unconsciously whenever you get money or buy yourself a big bed that offers you more comfort and curtails you from thinking more about greater success and achievement. It is better to have something that keeps on urging you for more than anything that tell you, ‘relax,it’s okey’.

Am told that in life there is nothing that is ever guaranteed; that success and failure are imposters that we should treat as equals. Poverty and riches are both conditions that we are supposed never to be comfortable in because any poor person can rise to riches and any rich person can drown to poverty. Nothing has given me more will-power than to realize that to be poor or rich, a leader or a follower, a nobody or a somebody, great or mediocre; is a matter of own choice. We choose where and who we want to be!

If you really want to add value to your daily existence be consistent in one great path. Make priorities that are challenging and are going to leave you a better person than you were yesterday. Do not be wavered or lured into pleasurable life scenes that will leave you a lesser being. Learn to ask yourself hard questions and the answers will always be simple. Learn to do self-evaluation regularly and you will know where you go wrong. Learn to spend your time in value-adding activities.

Before you spend: Think Again…before you spend make sure you’ve earned!!
